Living BIG

Last night, the Big Ten Network featured THON on it’s series LiveBIG.  This was a great opportunity to show people what THON really is.  It was only 11 minutes long, but it showed everything that THON encompasses; the smiles, the stories, the laughs and the tears.  While it is hard to show everything that happens in those 46 hours, we asked people who watched what their favorite part of the show was.  Many people said “ALL OF IT!”, but here are some responses;

Sarah Dills

When the total was released (I clearly remember the actual moment during THON weekend). It was such a happy moment that represented a milestone of love. We weren’t expecting to see that kind of number with the recession, but that was proved otherwise by donors that cared so much they were willing to give for the sake of others - some of them donating and never really knowing how big of a difference they’ll make.

I can’t wait to see the future milestones we reach… how about when treatment is no longer a long and painful battle… the day we know for a fact the exact pathology of this dreadful disease and the key to it’s prevention… and finally, the day THON has to find some other cause to support and oncology wards become extra space. Hey, a Nittany Lion can dream… I’m sure I’m not the only one. Shout out to all the research professionals and grad students working hard in the Four Diamonds Lab - they definitely have a huge role in making these dreams become real milestones and THON weekend a dance of celebration.”

“maddyyypryor Maddy Pryor

“Jennifer Parker Hardin
I cried and cheered while watching BTN LiveBIG when the amount raised for THON was revealed. Amazing!”

“Styli Tsinaroglou
I loved the part when they showed what family hour is.”

“Diana Hirsch
I just posted something on my blog and here on FB. My fave moments: The kids jumping thru hula hoops and the line “it’s better than Christmas.”. (it’s hard to type thru the tears I still cry)”

“Adam Krempasky
I almost cried when he said “how do you tell an 8 year child their best friend passed away.” This will be my first year getting really involved with THON. I only wish I had been this involved my first two years, but better late than never. I love every minute of this journey we are all on together. I am so proud to be a Penn Stater. Through all the trials and tribulations of the past two weeks, after seeing this on TV, I am reminded of why we [still] are Penn State. Wouldn’t go to any other school in the world.”

“Lisa Quell
Seeing one of my favorite nurses at Hershey hugging a little girl. ♥”
